Come celebrate the reopening of Sonoma’s Overlook Trail after the fire, as well as the 50th anniversary of the grand opening of the Overlook Trail. This free “Community Gratitude Hike” on Saturday, Dec. 2, starts at 9 a.m. at the Overlook Trail kiosk with music, coffee and muffins. The hike begins at 9:30.
Among the festivities, enjoy music from Paul Genovese and meet trail founders Karen Collins and Maggie Haywood. Sonoma Alcalde Ted Elliott will be on hand to help us celebrate our picturesque pathway that played a crucial role in protecting Sonoma from the fires.
We’ll hike the Overlook (weather permitting) with Joanna Kemper, Overlook Trail Steward Chair. She will point out the planned trail rehab and improvements on the hike as well as show how the trail has been quickly restored after two miles of firebreaks tore up the open space and trail. The Overlook Trail is now spread with rice straw — come on the hike to see how much green is now popping through!
